Crack Detection and Corrosion Mapping Using Loaded-Aperture Microwave Probe

Employing circular aperture probes for microwave imaging in the near-field has been proven to render high resolution images of a variety samples under test (SUT) when compared conventionally utilized rectangular probes. In this paper, it is proposed further enhance and sensitivity by loading (operating K-band frequency range) with resonant iris. It shown that probe exhibits confined localized distribution close iris opening, thereby improving its sensitivity. The design analysis presented herein are aided 3D electromagnetic simulations validated experimentally. spatial established through line scans over pair targets interspaced at known distances.
